Privacy Policy
Effective 25 October 2026 · Version 1
1. Who we are
Baslins Ltd, trading as Rocks 'n' Futures ("Rocks 'n' Futures", "we", "us" or "our"), runs rocksnfutures.com (the "Site"), a directory and intelligence service for mining technology. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the choices you have. It applies to everyone who visits the Site, subscribes to our newsletter, contacts us, or is named in our directory.
Baslins Ltd is a company registered in England and Wales (company no. 16437409), with its registered office at 71–75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom. Baslins Ltd is the controller of the personal information described in this policy.
This policy sits alongside our Terms of Use. Our use of cookies is explained in our Cookie Policy.
2. Personal information we collect
Personal information is any information that identifies you, directly or indirectly, such as your name, email address or an online identifier. It does not include information that has been aggregated or anonymised so that it can no longer identify you.
Information you give us
- Newsletter subscription. Your first name, last name, email address, company and role, with the date and source of your sign-up.
- Request form. When you claim a profile, request a change or suggest a company: your name, work email, role and company, and the corrections, sources or suggestions you send.
- Report downloads. Your email address, and your name and company if you choose to provide them, with the report requested and the request date. We record your request and provide the file. Downloading a report does not subscribe you to our newsletter.
- Emails to us. Your name, email address and whatever you write.
Information we collect automatically
- Site statistics. Pages viewed, the site that referred you, your country, and your device and browser type. Our analytics tool recognises a visit for 24 hours using a scrambled code made from your IP address and browser, then deletes the code. We see totals only.
- Server logs. Our hosting providers process IP addresses briefly to deliver the Site and block abuse.
- Newsletter engagement. Our newsletter provider, EmailOctopus, records whether each email is opened and which links are clicked, so we can see what readers find useful.
- Cookies. See our Cookie Policy.
Information from public sources
Our directory describes mining technology companies. Where a company profile, article or report names a founder, executive or member of staff, we use business information that is already public: name, job title, company, professional background, links to public professional profiles, and public statements reported in the press. Section 4 explains this in full.
We do not ask for sensitive information, such as health, religion or political views. Please don't send it.
3. How we use personal information, and our legal basis
We use personal information to:
- send our newsletter to subscribers
- verify profile claims, check corrections, reply to requests and keep the directory accurate
- publish accurate information about mining technology companies
- invite a company to check or claim its profile, or to send evidence for its rating
- reply to emails
- understand which pages and emails are useful, and keep the Site secure
- comply with our legal obligations
Under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR), we rely on two legal bases:
- Consent to send our newsletter and measure how it is read. You can withdraw consent at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email. Withdrawal does not affect what happened before.
- Legitimate interests for everything else: running an accurate directory, answering requests, contacting companies about their profiles, keeping a suppression list so we never email someone who has unsubscribed, and understanding and securing the Site. We have weighed these interests against yours in a written assessment, available on request.
You don't have to give us your details, but we can't send the newsletter or handle a request without a working email address. We never sell or rent personal information, never share it with advertisers, and never publish the contact details you give us.
4. If your name appears on Rocks 'n' Futures
This section is for founders, executives and staff named in company profiles, articles and reports. You did not give us this information directly, so the law requires us to tell you where it came from.
- Sources. The company's own website and press releases, public company registers, funding announcements, conference programmes and news coverage. We link to public professional profiles such as LinkedIn; we don't copy data from them.
- What we publish. Business information only: name, role, company and professional background. Never personal contact details, home addresses or anything about your private life.
- Why we think it is fair. People who evaluate mining technology need to know who builds it. The information is already public in a professional context, and we keep it in that context.
- If we email you. Only about your company's profile. Every such email says where we found your address and lets you opt out in one click.
- Your choice. You can ask us to correct or remove your details at any time, through the Privacy request option on the request form or by email. If you object, we remove your personal details. Facts about the company itself stay.
5. Ratings
Ratings assess companies and their technology, not individuals. A rating labelled "public evidence" uses public sources only, with nothing supplied by the company. We make no automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects on any individual.
6. Who we share personal information with
We share personal information with service providers that help us run Rocks 'n' Futures. Each one processes it only on our instructions, under data processing terms:
- Vercel Inc.: website hosting and delivery, and site statistics (Vercel Web Analytics).
- Salesforce, Inc. (Heroku): application server and database.
- Formagrid, Inc. (Airtable): directory records, request-form submissions and report-download requests.
- EmailOctopus: sending our newsletter and measuring opens and clicks.
- Google LLC (Google Workspace): email.
Contractors who build and maintain the Site may also see personal information. They work under confidentiality and data processing terms.
We may also disclose personal information where the law requires it, or to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. If Rocks 'n' Futures moves into a new company or is sold, your information passes to the new operator under this policy, and we will tell subscribers first.
7. International transfers
Some of our providers are in the United States, and contractors may work outside the UK. We use US providers only if they are certified under the UK–US "data bridge" or have signed the UK's approved transfer terms, and we use those terms with contractors abroad too. Ask us for a copy.
8. Your rights
You have the right to:
- see the personal information we hold about you
- have it corrected
- have it deleted
- restrict how we use it
- object to processing based on legitimate interests, and to direct marketing at any time
- receive the information you gave us in a portable format
- withdraw consent at any time, without affecting what happened before
Email hello@rocksnfutures.com or choose "Privacy request" on the request form. It is free in almost all cases. We reply within one month, or within three months for complex requests, in which case we tell you within the first month. We may ask you to confirm your identity first.
9. Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we handle your personal information, tell us first. Email hello@rocksnfutures.com with "Data protection complaint" in the subject, or choose "Privacy request" on the request form. We acknowledge complaints within 30 days, keep you informed of progress, and tell you the outcome without undue delay.
You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113. In the EU, you can contact the data protection authority where you live.
10. How long we keep personal information
- Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe. Unconfirmed sign-ups are deleted after 30 days. After you unsubscribe, we keep your email on a suppression list so we never email you again by mistake.
- Request form: 24 months after the request is closed. For a claimed profile, while the claim stands plus 24 months.
- People named on the Site: while the information is current and the company is listed. We correct or remove it on request.
- People we contact about a profile: 24 months after our last contact, or until you ask us to stop.
- Emails to us: 24 months after our last exchange.
- Server logs: as set by each host, typically 30 days. Site statistics hold no identifiers.
When a period ends, we delete the information or anonymise it.
11. How we protect personal information
Every page of the Site uses an encrypted connection, and we limit who can access records. If a breach is likely to put you at high risk, we tell you directly. We report breaches to the ICO within 72 hours when the law requires.
12. Children
Rocks 'n' Futures is for professionals. It is not directed at anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
13. Cookies
See our Cookie Policy, which also explains how to switch off analytics.
14. Changes to this policy
We post changes here with a new effective date. If a change matters to subscribers, we email them before it takes effect.
